Mission outreach is a high priority to the First Congregational family. Mission funds are collected in
a special wicker “bread” basket that is passed along with the regular offering plates. The Missions Committee
is dedicated to dispensing all missions funds over a diverse range of needs.
Local Support
Benzie Are Christian Neighbors (BACN)
This
agency is a cooperative effort between county churches to provide local people with food, clothing and living expenses.
The BACN “house” is centrally located in Benzonia and is completely run by volunteers.
NACCC Mission Support
This special mission project is sponsored by our National
Association of Congregational Christian Churches Missionary Society. Begun in 1974 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the work at
this Mission speaks to the spiritual and physical needs of the Honduran people. Most recently, the Mission was severely affected
by Hurricane Mitch and is still working to meet the desperate needs of the hurricane survivors.
The Mission supports eight churches and operates a medical
and dental clinic, a sewing school, and two feeding stations. The medical clinic gives assistance to poor families with health
and hygiene needs. Some clients of the medical and dental clinic have had no prior health care. The "home church" of the mission,
Emmanuel Church located in the village of Rivera Hernandez, has adopted the home-group method of evangelism. Lay workers
assist with this ministry as leaders of home groups.
Evangelistic Support
Interserve Evangelistic Ministry to the Buryat
Republic. www.interserve.org This nondenominational mission organization works with people of the Buryat Republic, bringing the Gospel to unreached
people in Mongolia, Siberia, and Tibet.
Disaster Support
One Great Hour of Sharing
The One Great Hour of Sharing Fund is used to bring emergency relief to victims of natural disasters such as floods, famine,
and other situations of emergency both in the United States and around the world. Relief funds may be requested with
little or no advanced warning. Most recent distributions from this fund were used for relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes
in the Caribbean and Central America, for food and medical brigades in Mexico, and assistance to those who suffered property
damage due to tornadoes in the southern United States.
International Support
Haitian Island Ministry is a project dear to
this congregation. Three young men from our community have been adopted by one of the founders of this ministry.

Native American Educational Support
Cook College and Theological School has been educating, enabling, and empowering
Native Americans to pursue ministry and leadership positions on reservations and urban settings for nearly 100 years. Throughout
its history, the School has emphasized respect for the cultural values and spirituality of Native Americans. Students from
90 different tribes across the continent have become lay ministers to their people. Many of the graduates have gone on to
seminaries. Others have distinguished themselves in positions of leadership in both church and tribal governments.
