Operation Christmas Child is up and running!

Chase The Chill

Join in this county wide BACN food drive and help us fill half a semi-truck. Bring your donations to Shop-n-Save on February 3 and 4 and help us feed our neighbors in need!

Souper Bowl Sunday

Join with churches around the country by donating $1 to BACN on this biggest Sunday of football and greatest Sunday of giving. Look for the soup pots and give what you can!

Reception for Linda Davis

Meet and greet our new organist, Linda Davis, on Tuesday, February 14, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Dick and Joanne Brown's house. Winde and hors d'ouevres will be provided.

Shiver by the River

The parade route for Saturday, February 18 goes from Cannon Park to the library. The Outreach Committee would love for us to have a huge showing, so if you can be a part, join us at 10:40 a.m. at Cannon Park to learn the jingle that we'll use. This year's theme is a Hawaiian luau, so if you have an appropriate shirt tha can fit over your coat, that would be great. Or you could pin a shirt to your coat, or wear a lei or grass skirt. And as you know, the more, the merrier. Hope to see you there!

Solid Rock Teen Concert

This free event for teens is scheduled on Thursday, February 16 at Benzie Central High School. The concert begins at 6:30 and will feature ATTABOY, Brandon Jenkins, and the praise and worship band from The Zone. Doors open at 5:45 and there will be food, great music and prizes.

Ash Wednesday Service

You are invited to join us on Wednesday, February 22 at 12:00 p.m. for this traditional start to the season of Lent.

Thank You!

· to all who helped with Christmas decorating  and de-decorating the sanctuary

· to Hugh Hessler and Ron Phillips forwrapping water pipes at the church

· to Kris Dykstra, Andrea Frost and Marti Mollema for the time and creativity they gave in switching out the Dining Room decorations from Christmas to Up North. The use of natural decorations is particularly wonderful.

· to Will Church for putting the storm windows on the sanctuary.

· to all who helped with the varied and many aspects of the holiday season services and events. It was a beautiful season and especially meaningful because of all the heartfelt efforts on so many parts and hearts.

· to John McElduff for snowplowing and those who took up the occasional shovel.

· to Andrea Frost and Bill Frostic for getting our new Records Office up and running. It is the former Sunday School room with the step and is now the home to the Financial Secretary, Historian, and Treasurer. Their former office is becoming a Sunday School room. With more kids, we need more space! And the eventual goal is to knock out the wall between the two Sunday School rooms and put a folding door between them so that our growing classes can have more room and flexibility.

· to Phil Wade for putting in the new kitchen sink faucet. We’re washing dishes like pros now!

· to all those who helped with the Memorial Service for Luanne Buzzell. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Jim and all of the Buzzell families as they struggle with losing such a dear woman.

· to Secretary Kris for her years of dedicated service to our church family as our secretary. She will be greatly missed but we also wish her well on being able to work with kids and books at Crystal Lake Elementary.

· Thank you, Judy Grant! Judy served our church family for the past six years on the Council.  Her dedication and good nature cannot be replaced, and she will be missed.  But with a little rest, who knows where her energies will take her?

Moment For Missions

NEEDED--Financial Support for Benzie Home Health Care! The mission of Benzie Home Health Care for the past 35 years has been to provide compassionate, practical, and high quality home support to any Benzie County adult over 60, in the form of assistance with basic personal care, medication set-up, family caregiver respite, a telephone reassurance program for isolated seniors, and a recycled medical equipment loan closet. They offer their services regardless of ability to pay. Benzie County is the smallest county, one of the poorest counties, and has the highest number of seniors in need.  The demand for family caregiver respite has more than doubled in 2 years.

Their funding has always been through donations, which have drastically been cut back due to the economy. As part of their organization’s efforts to become more sustainable, they are reaching out to the churches in Benzie County for support. Ideally, each church would make a commitment to become a CARE PARTNER, providing monthly support.  The cost to provide an hour of home health aide service is $18 as compared to $35 for most agencies.  For $72 a month, they can assist a senior once a week with bathing and personal care. For $144, they can assist a senior twice a week with bathing and personal care.  For $288 a month, they can provide a family caregiver 4 hours of respite time each week.

Our Missions Committee is asking the congregation to become a CARE PARTNER..  Our missions presently support 5 projects that are in need.  Four projects are local and two are for   basically overseas support. A commitment of a dollar a week more in our Missions basket by each family, will make it possible for us to be a CARE PARTNER to Benzie Home Healthcare.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Your Missions Committee  Co-chairmen, Hugh Hessler and Nancy Marshall

 NEWS AND NEEDS FROM THE

NACC MISSION SOCIETY

About a year ago NACC began a relationship with Hosanna Industries – a faith-rooted non-profit organization which assists with home repair and construction for low-income persons living in deteriorating housing.

According to Amy Firek, missions and volunteer coordinator, “the staff believes every family should live in dignity, every roof should be tight, and every furnace should burn safely. They believe no one should go to sleep cold, hungry, or scared. They believe every child should have a yard, a kitchen and a bed.”

Hosanna Industries has hosted over 130,00 volunteers since 1990 and has completed more than 2000 new home or home repair projects for low and very low-income households.

In addition to home construction and renovation, Hosanna Industries also provides vocational training in construction trades, assists in the development and startup of small businesses, creates job opportunities, and mobilizes relief workers to disaster areas.

A portion of the money our congregation generously places in the mission basket each Sunday goes to NACCC and they, in turn, pass it on to mission projects they find worthwhile. Hosanna Industries is so thankful for your assistance. Learn more by visiting their website at www.hosannaindustries.org

                               Women’s Fellowship

I have been home since February 19th and I surely appreciate all the visitors who have stopped by and the help of several health aides, and of course, my special helper from Benzie Home Health Care, Joy Jensen. What a good friend she is. I am not walking as well as I would like but a walker loaned to me by pim is a big help so I hope to be doing better. My niece and nephew, Terry and JoAnne Herban, have been my main stay and of course, Phillip and Isaac, and “Mr. Happy Cat” and Ringo who were glad to have me back home.

Today, I was fitted with a “hearing aid” so there are new things in my life that I will learn how to use. I have missed coming to church but I want to be cautious as I don’t want a re-peat. Thank you to all who have sent cards, stopped in, or called. I do appreciate all the concern and well wishes.

To all of you—thank you for all the good wishes and visits.

With love,

Erma McKinnon

Dear friends, The government does not pay long distance phone charges for those servicemen and women wounded in action.Phone cards are the number one request by hospitalized military personnel, so that they may call their families. If it is within your means, pick up a phone card...even if only a $5 card...and send it to the following address: Medical Family Assistance Center Walter Reed Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington, DC20307-5001 Your effort will make the year much brighter and someone's heart will be much warmer knowing how you helped!

Thank you, Paul & Julie Robinson
